“Florida—The Rules Are Different Here”

“Florida—The Rules Are Different Here” was a state promotional slogan that began in 1986. It is still used derisively, whenever someone wants to break the rules.

19 October 1986, Washington Post, pg. SM24 ad:
FLORIDA
The Rules Are Different Here.

12 October 2001, New York Times, “Everything Happens to Florida” by Dinae Roberts, pg. A25:
The tourist board used to have a slogan “Florida—the rules are different here.” It now seems that Florida’s karma is to be omphalos of American weirdness.
