Bass Capital of Texas (Mount Pleasant nickname)

Mount Pleasant has called itself the “Bass Capital of Texas” since at least 1993. Four lakes provide ample bass fishing opportunities.

The “bass capital” title is disputed by other Texas cities, however, and it is not an “official capital designation” made by the Texas legislature.

Mt. Pleasant, Texas
The Mount Pleasant area declares itself the “Bass Capital of Texas.” This community has four prime bass lakes that are located just south of the town. In addition, the town is conveniently located five miles from the Bob Sandlin State Recreation Area. This recreation area provides camping sites, swimming, skiing, boat launching and much more! Mount Pleasant also has a diverse employment base and a strong economy.

Mt. Pleasant has it’s moderate climate to thank for it’s year round recreational opportunities. In the spring, and array of wild flowers create a colorful countryside, while summer offers water recreation and fishing. In the fall, Mother Nature again takes over and provides many hours of pleasure courtesy of the fall foliage. Winters in Mount Pleasant mean “hot water” bass fishing and Christmas magic.

There’s something fishy about this. Quitman claims to be “The Big Bass Capital of the World.” Meanwhile, Mount Pleasant calls itself “Bass Capital of Texas.” They should have a range war to settle it.
