24 April 2005, The Record (Hackensack, NJ), "Indie director created his own film festival" by Jim Beckerman, pg. E-9, col. 1:
Some people are part of the solution. Others are part of the problem.

Independent filmmaker Jonathan Lipp is a bi of both.

When Lipp, Paramus native, launched his Big Apple Film Festival in 2004, it was his response to the rejection slips he got from many of the major festivals. He wanted a film festival where the little guy -- a guy like himself -- could have a chance.

Now, a year later, he's handing out the rejection slips.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Big Apple Film Festival is New York City's premiere event, taking place annually in the heart of the greatest city in the world. The BAFF is dedicated to showcasing and promoting the highest quality films and screenplays that the entertainment world has to offer. Our mission is to bridge the gap between dedicated independent film audiences and filmmakers, as well as to connect emerging filmmakers with established industry professionals. Therefore, the festival offers a variety of film screenings, special New York City premieres, interactive panel discussions, special guests, a screenplay competition, networking parties and events, as well as a closing night awards ceremony, in which awards will be presented to celebrate achievements in filmmaking, screenwriting and acting. In addition, as New York City is synonymous with cultural diversity, the Big Apple Film Festival was established to celebrate the city's multi-culturalism. Therefore, a primary purpose of the festival is to recognize films and filmmakers that seek to focus their attention on the unique qualities of individuals of all backgrounds and ethnicities. In order to bring the most elite talent to the silver screen, the BAFF is proud to partner with a variety of independent film organizations, including IFP, Filmmaker Magazine, Indiewire.com and Scriptshark.com.
