Catfish Toes

Catfish have toes?

The Boat House Grill (6812 Ranch Road 620 N in Austin, near Lake Travis) opened in 1999 and has a menu that includes “catfish toes.” The “toes” are a basket of catfish slices, similar to steak “fingers” or chicken “fingers.”

No other restaurant appears to serve “catfish toes” and it’s far from the culinary status of food “fingers,” but the food name could possibly catch on.

A basket full of thin catfish slices, hand breaded & extra crispy. Served with lemon & tartar sauce. They’ll make your toes wiggle!

catfish toes and steak fingers
I’m at a parlor.  A type of catfish parlor, the kind with wooden fish and oars mounted on pine walls, with life preservers, water skis and neon Dos Equis and Shiner signs.  It’s not, as one might suspect, a waterfront shack.  It’s a pit off a high-traffic road, North FM 620.  The FM stands for “farm to market” because back in the day, roads like this were designed to get you from the farm to the market.  And now, en route, there’s this sign-decorated “Boat House” that along with “catfish toes” and “steak fingers” sells their own tee shirts.

Anna’s Mom Comes For A Visit
Last weekend, Mama Cheng came to visit us. It really made me miss CA. While she was here she whipped us up a few yummy home cooked meals. =( It was sad to see her go. We took her to a local place we discovered that has amazing catfish. Catfish can have a strong taste if not fresh or cooked the right way. Here is another Austin good eat.
