Cathedral of the Skies (Empire State Building)
The Empire State Building (briefly nicknamed the "Empty State Building"--see above) is also called the "Cathedral of the Skies." This is a nod to the old Woolworth Building, the "Cathedral of Commerce."

"The Cathedral of the Skies," as it has been called, identifies New York City more than any other feature in this landmark filled city.

The spirit of New York City is embodied in the Empire State Building. People who fell in love here, return with their children and grandchildren. This building is a symbol of American ingenuity and Art Deco architecture and a landmark that offers some spectacular and romantic views. The Empire State Building, soaring more than a quarter of a mile into the atmosphere above the heart of Manhattan, has been called "the cathedral of the skies" by many.
