Dolphins (College of Staten Island teams)
The College of Staten Island calls its athletic teams the "Dolphins." No one knows why.

20 February 1979, New York Times, pg. C10:
And, during the nine games that make up the City University of New York championship tournament, the Dolphins of Staten Island will learn if they can add the tournament title to their regular-season league crown.

27 January 1982, New York Times, "Good Things Happening at Staten Island" by Malcolm Moran, pg. B9:
The Dolphins, who have a 13-1 record going into tonight's game at Queens College, were not about to wait for the envelope this week.
