Greedy One Percent (Grand Old Party or GOP nickname)

“Greedy One Percent” is a slogan that has been printed on many gift items, such as T-shirts and buttons. The Occupy Wall Street movement in 2011 featured the slogan, “We are the 99%.” The “one percent” (or a “one percenter”) is someone in the top 1% of all earners—the ultra-rich.

“Greedy One Percent(er)” uses the initials “GOP” (Grand Old Party) in the belief that Republicans are favored by the wealthy. “The GOP, the Greedy One Percent” was written on a blog published on August 13, 2011—slightly before the Occupy movement. “Greedy One Percent” became commonly used by the first half of October 2011.

Wikipedia: We are the 99%
We are the 99% is a political slogan widely used by the Occupy movement. It was originally the name of a Tumblr blog page launched in late August 2011 by a 28-year-old New York activist going by the name of “Chris”. It is a variation on the phrase “We The 99%” from an August 2011 flyer for the NYC General Assembly.

The phrase indirectly refers to the concentration of income and wealth among the top earning 1%, and reflects a belief that the “99%” are paying the price for the mistakes of a tiny minority. The phrase was picked up as a unifying slogan by the Occupy movement. According to the Wall Street Journal, as of October 2011, the lower 99% of income distribution in the United States is made up of those earning less than $506,000 annually.

Letters – Aug. 10
Before the totalitarian ways of today’s GOP, the “Greedy One Percent, President Obama,” has proven himself, once again, to be the great capitulator.
To be sure, the GOP had the president caught between a rock and a hard spot over the increase of the debt ceiling with their reckless willingness to allow our country to be dashed upon the rocks of default. The GOP, the Greedy One Percent, don’t seem to give a hoot who they hurt as long as long as they don’t pay an iota more in taxes and their investments, particularly in multinational corporations, are allowed to continue to gorge themselves from the public trough. There modus operandi is stick it to the little guy. Let subsidies for the likes of the oil companies, the most profitable entities in the history of mankind, continue.
