Jamwich (jam + sandwich)

“Jamwich” is a word formed from the two words “jam” and “sandwich.” In 2006, Pierre Foods trademarked the name “PB Jamwich” for its peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, often seen at vending machines. In 2008, New York City’s Treats Truck began to feature a ‘Jamwich” cookie—two peanut butter cookies sandwiching peanut butter and raspberry jam. The word “Jamwich” appeared as an entry on the Urban Dictionary in 2005.

The word “jamwich” dates back much further than 2005-2008. A 1902 book described a “jamwich” of bread slices and wild plum jam. A 1959 newspaper article described “jamwiches” of sponge cake and jam or jelly. A 1969 abbreviations dictionary included “jamwich: jam sandwich.”

Quickly the tea was drawn, only Anne noticing that it was the last in the caddy, and the sugar the last in the bowl, and Mrs. Carr taking a small loaf from a stone jar cut it in thin slices and spread them with wild plum jam, from the same closet where there still remained a few pots. “I’m out of butter, as it haps,” she said dryly.

The tea was delicious and every one enjoyed it heartily. Anne was standing by the door with a second “jamwich,” as she always called the combination,...

Taking on the Treats Truck One Treat at a Time: A Year in Treats…
(...)
4.) The Peanut Butter Jamwich
Two peanut butter cookies sandwiching a thin shmear of both creamy peanut butter and of raspberry jam. Delish. I’d be a fan even if I didn’t come up with the name. Very excited to see that the jamwich has made it’s way into the regular treat rotation.
