San Jose, Costa Rica nickname
San Jose, Costa Rica is sometimes called "the Big Pineapple." I was there and never heard this, but it's in some tourist literature so it's gotta be true.

Why do we call San Jose "the Big Pineapple?" Because, unbeknownst to most travel writers and map-makers, the city streets and avenues of Costa Rica's capital are laid out in the shape of a giant pineapple. Yes, another one of those little-known facts about Costa Rica that we ran across in the classic but out-of-print book, The Secret History of Costa Rica by Moe Wright IX.

San Jose, Costa Rica is called the "Big Pineapple" because the streets in the city are laid in the shape of a big pineapple!
