Sunset Capital of Texas (Oasis restaurant on Lake Travis, Austin)

Texas has many “capitals” that are designated by the state legislature. All of the “capitals” are cities.

The Oasis restaurant on Lake Travis in Austin has such spectacular views that it bills itself as ‘The Sunset Capital of Texas.”

6550 Comanche Trail
Austin, TX 78732
Phone: (512) 266-2441
Cuisine:  American Southwestern Tex-Mex

Known more for its view—billed as the best in Austin—than its food, The Oasis still has a wide variety of items on the menu. Has indoor and outdoor seating for the sunsets, as well as live entertainment, large screen TV, retail shops and valet service on the weekends.

Highs and Lows: Highs include the many-tiered decks overlooking Lake Travis; The Oasis bills itself as the “sunset capital of Texas” and who are we to argue? Lows all involve the food.
Drinks and Beverages: Try the margaritas and specialty drinks to sip as you soak in the view.

About Us at The OASIS (Austin, Texas)
In 1979 Beau bought a week-end home on Lake Travis and decided that the hill top just across the lake was the perfect place to open a restaurant.

The 500-acre site, originally grown up with weeds and sporting an old barn, now houses The OASIS, perched on a cliff overlooking Lake Travis.  Today The OASIS has 40 decks plus and can hold in excess of 2000 people.

The sunset at The OASIS is a major event complete with bell ringing and applause.  The OASIS also provides a spectacular view of Lake Travis and the surrounding hill country.  It is a must-see for out-of-towners and a reprieve for locals—the perfect place for groups of up to 500 for parties, weddings, corporate events and any other special occasion you want to celebrate.  The restaurant’s Starlight nightspot provides a great weekend venue for live music and entertainment.

26 May 1990, Austin (TX) American-Statesman, “Cool Austin Hangouts” by Kitty Crider, pg. E1:
Called the Sunset Capital of Texas, this top stop is where folks wait an hour or more to sip margaritas, munch on fajitas and say goodnight to El Sol.
