A “teavangelist” (tea party supporter + evangelist) is a Christian minister who supports the tea party’s political agenda. “Teavangelist” has been cited in print since at least April 2010. An earlier use of “teavangelist” meant “an evangelist for tea” (instead of coffee or other drinks).
 
The term received national exposure on MSNBC’a The Rachel Maddow Show on July 12, 2011, in a discussion of the religious support for Texas Governor Rick Perry to run for president. Wayne Slater of the Dallas (TX) Morning News said that Perry had received the support of what was being called the “teavangelists.”

Alright, I wasn’t going to say this, but if you absolutely must know, I invented this term in 1957, and I have turned over all rights to Melinda. All others are upstarts. Pay her, not me.

It’s pretty clear where you are politically. Heck, 63% of you look to Fox News to give you your political insights and one of your favorites is inflammatory teavangelist Glenn Beck. And yes, it’s pretty clear the vast majority of us now that Fox News is a Republican mouthpiece.

…but it could be worse. Enough with the Judeo-Christian stuff. How about some Islamo-Mormon values? There are similarities, out on the extremes.

Let’s skip the recession, go straight to depression

I believe that the GOP hard liners and the teavangelists would truly like to push us into a depression and keep us there until famine and starvation become more powerful tools to use against the former middle class than is unemployment.
