Texas Bix Bender included this line in his book Don’t Squat with Yer Spurs On! II (1997):
“A Texas breakfast is a two-pound hunk of steak, a quart of whisky, and a hound dog. If you’re wondering why you need the dog—well, somebody has to eat the steak.”
A real Texas breakfast often includes breakfast tacos, but Bender’s humorous line is frequently cited.

The following morning I was up early to stay ahead of the long arm of the law. I had a “Texas Breakfast”. A “Texas Breakfast” I found out, consists of a sixteen ounce ribeye steak, a fifth of whiskey and a dog. The dog is there to eat the steak.
