“The Big OD” & Slowdeatha (Odessa nicknames)

The city of Odessa has the nicknames “The Big OD” (overdose?) and Slowdeatha. Neither is an official city nickname, of course.

It (Abilene—ed.) isn’t very “western” in comparison to Odessa (Slowdeatha-the Big OD-I love the nicknames cities, and their rival neighboring cities, give each other) or Midland, but a trip to the museums and Old Settlers Grounds at Buffalo Gap, the original county seat, is an awesome step back in time.

I’m from The big OD (odessa, texas) but I just moved to Burleson which is like 10 minutes south of Fort Worth.

i’ll give you a hint.  The locals call it Slowdeatha.

In the Exxon Corporation it used to be a watchword that if you fucked up, they fired you, but if you __really__ fucked up, they sent you to Odessa.

Well, I was born and raised in Odessa, or Slowdeatha as I used to call it.
