“All men are created equal, and then a few become firefighters”

“All men are created equal, and then a few become firefighters” is a saying that has been printed on several gift items, such as T-shirts and bumper stickers. U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said ““There’s a saying that all men are created equal but then a few become firefighters” at a fire tragedy in 2009 and “All men are created equal, and then a few become firefighters” at a fire tragedy in 2013.

“All men are created equal… then some become Firefighters” was cited in print in October 2004. The authorship of the saying is unknown. (“All men are created equal,” of course, is from the Declaration of Independence.)

When your children wear T-shirts displaying statements such as “My dad saves lives for a living, what does your dad do?” it sets a high standard. Shirts with messages such as “All men are created equal, a few become firefighters”, “First in – Last out”, and “Hero Inside” all paint pictures of invincibility.
