“Better safe than sorry” is an old proverb. “Better sore than sorry” is a motivational saying that has been printed on posters and T-shirts.
 
“Better sore than sorry” was cited—describing a relationship—in a 1997 book. The saying became a popular gym motivation by 2011.
 
Similar sayings include “You can wake up sore or you can wake up sorry” and “You can feel sore tomorrow, or you can feel sorry tomorrow—you choose.”
