Cereal Bar

Kith Treats of Prospect Heights opened in August 2015 and billed itself as “New York’s first cereal bar.” Customers could choose a breakfast cereal (or a combination of cereals) and add toppings.

The term “cereal bar” had been used before 2015, and there had even been a temporary cereal bar in New York. Cereality Cereal Bar & Cafe was trademarked in 2003. “Video: New York Times’ Melena Ryzik tours Pixar Studios (where there’s a cereal bar and a hidden speakeasy)” was cited on Twitter on May 5, 2011. DNAinfo New York reported in September 2014 about a pop-up cafe and free cereal bar in SoHo (452 West Broadway).

New York City does not have a cereal bar. If I had only one wish granted, this would be it. #pregnant #craving

Free Lucky Charms and Frosted Flakes Coming to Artist’s Pop-Up Cafe in SoHo
By Danielle Tcholakian | September 4, 2014 6:10pm | Updated on September 5, 2014 4:27pm
SOHO — This exhibition’s grrrrrrrreat.

An artist is investigating her own relationship to technology — and sugary cereal — with a pop-up cafe and free cereal bar in SoHo later this month that aims to draw parallels between the two.

Rachel Lee Hovnanian’s “Instant Gratification” installation will open Sept. 18 at 452 West Broadway, where visitors can get free bowls of Frosted Flakes or Lucky Charms from clear plastic containers. The space will also offer free Wi-Fi, in an attempt connect the ideas of overindulging on sweet cereal and social media.

Sneaker boutique Kith NYC is opening a new location in Brooklyn that will have a cereal bar with 24 varieties of breakfast treats, plus 10 types of milk and 30 toppings. No word yet on how much that cereal will cost, but guests will probably pay way more money than anyone wants to spend on store-bought food that requires zero cooking. New York’s first cereal bar/sneaker store is slated to open at 233 Flatbush Avenue on August 27.

A Sneaker-Inspired Cereal “Bar” Opens In Brooklyn
BY NELL CASEY IN FOOD ON AUG 24, 2015 3:00 PM
Even knowing that it’s several cups worth of sugar masquerading as a breakfast food, it’s difficult to resist the siren’s call of cereals like Frosted Flakes, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and the other mascot-hawked treats we grew up eating. Fashion and footwear retailer KITH NYC are cleverly manipulating our weak wills with a new cereal “bar” opening at their new Brooklyn shop tomorrow a block from the Barclays Center. If you can’t sate a craving for artificially-flavored death crystals from a branded sneaker shop in Prospect Heights then what the hell are we even doing here?

Inside a high-end streetwear store in Brooklyn is something rather unexpected - New York City’s first cereal bar.

KITH CEO Ronnie Fieg has combined his two greatest passions, sneakers and cereal, in KITH’s newly revamped Brooklyn store in Prospect Heights.
