A “continental breakfast” isn’t the size of an actual continent, but there’s a joke:
“Continental breakfasts should be served on tectonic plates.”
“I’ve lived in California all my life, but I still can’t get the drift of serving Continental Breakfast on Tectonic Plates” was posted on the newsgroup rec.arts.comics.elfquest on August 1, 1995.
“One tectonic plate bumped into another and said, ‘Sorry, my fault,‘“ “What did the tectonic plates have for breakfast?”/“Panquakes” and “What’s the Earth’s favorite fizzy drink?”/“Tectonic water” are other tectonic jokes.
