“Expectations are premeditated resentments”

“Expectations are premeditated resentments” is a saying of unknown authorship. “If the old saying that ‘expectations are premeditated resentments’ is true, then our expectations are always putting us in an untenable position” was cited in the book Meditations for People Who Worry (1996) by Anne Wilson Schaef.

“Expectations are premeditated resentments.—Saying from Alcoholics Anonymous program” was cited in a 2006 book. The saying has been popular in 12-step recovery programs.
