“How many personal-injury lawyers does it take to change a light bulb?” (lawyer joke)

Personal injury lawyers sometimes have an unfavorable “ambulance chaser” reputation. A combination lawyer joke and lightbulb joke is:

Q: How many personal-injury lawyers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Three — one to turn the bulb, one to shake him off the ladder and one to sue the ladder company.

The joke has been cited in print since at least 1996.

A: About five hundred.  The first 499 will develop various neck and wrist injuries, be cut by broken glass, be electrocuted, be taken out by no printed warnings about injesting glass and metal, suffocate, be hit by busses, etc…”

Personal-injury lawyers sometimes are regarded as ambulance chasers who will sue on the slightest of pretexts. They even inspire jokes:

NORMALLY we eschew lightbulb jokes, but having seen so many advertisements on the telly, we pass on: “How many personal injury lawyers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

“Three.

You’ve heard the old joke: It takes three personal injury lawyers to change a lightbulb — one to turn the bulb, another to shake him off the ladder, and the third to sue the ladder company.
