“If this nameplate isn’t on the back of your car, you probably paid too much” (Potamkin car dealers)
Victor H. Potamkin established sucessful auto dealerships in New York City, Florida, and elsewhere. He advertised heavily on television, and his car dealership's slogan was: "If this nameplate isn't on the back of your car, you probably paid too much."

8 November 1978, New York Times, pg. D19:

THE MEDIA BUSINESS: ADVERTISING -- ADDENDA; Potamkin Coming Back To Late-Night TV
By STUART ELLIOTT
Published: October 15, 1991
(Pg. D20 -- ed.)
After a four-year absence, commercials for the Potamkin Cadillac dealership, once standard fare on late-night television in New York, will begin reappearing later this year.

Victor H. Potamkin, who had closed his legendary Manhattan Cadillac dealership in 1987, reopens today, this time as Potamkin Cadillac-Buick-Chevrolet. The dealership has assigned the $5 million advertising account to Baldi Bloom & Whelan Inc., New York, the same agency that handled Potamkin's advertising from from 1979 to 1987.

Potamkin's strategy had been to saturate the late-night airwaves with spots featuring members of the Potamkin family who emphasized low prices. In the ads, the Potamkin name was accompanied by the slogan: "If this nameplate isn't on the back of your car, you probably paid too much."

7 April 1994, New York Times, "Luba Potamkin, 73, Pitchwoman for Cadillacs" by Richard D. Lyons, pg. B8:
Luba Potamkin, a broadcasting spokeswoman in the 1970's for her family's Cadillac auto dealerships on the East Coast, died yesterday at her home in Miami. She was 73.

The cause was Alzheimer's disease, said her husband, Victor Potamkin.

Three years after her husband founded Potamkin Cadillac in 1972, Mrs. Potamkin and other members of her family appeared in television commercials that featured the line: "If this nameplate isn't on the back of your car, you probably paid too much."

7 June 1995, New York Times, obituaries, pg. B12:
Victor Potamkin, 83; Turned Ailing Cadillac Agency Into $1 Billion Empire; 'Not bad for a fish seller,' said the master marketer of automobiles.
