“If you snooze, you lose”

“If you snooze, you lose” has been the advertising pitch of many in retail sales. Tom Parsons’ Best Fares (bestfares.com), based in Irving, Texas, has long used (since the 1980s) the “If you snooze, you lose” line to advertise its travel discounts.

“If you snooze, you lose” is cited in print from at least 1950 and was first popular with used car dealers.

Airfare guru uses Internet presence to tout best deals

by Margaret Allen
If there’s a cheap airline fare to be had, Tom Parsons will know it first.

That’s quite an achievement, considering the way airfares bounce around from one day to the next—seemingly more volatile than the stock market.

Parsons is founder, owner and editor of the nationally known Best Fares Discount Travel magazine, which circulates in hard copy to 50,000 subscribers.

The Irving-based expert has 14 years of fare-watching under his belt and averages 80 to 100 radio and TV talk show appearances a month.
(...)
On the ‘Net, Parsons offers consumer alerts and feature stories as well as breaking news “Snooze Alarms.”

“I call it ‘snooze, you lose,’ ” said Parsons, noting that these are fare reductions that won’t stick around for long and require fast action.
