“It’s sick out there and getting sicker” (Bob Grant)

Talk radio host Bob Grant (1929-2013), in a long and pioneering talk show career, had shows on both WOR and WABC radio stations in New York City. “It’s sick out there and getting sicker” has been one of his popular lines, cited in print since at least 1996.

Wikipedia: Bob Grant (radio)
Bob Grant (March 14, 1929 - December 31, 2013) was an American radio host whose real name was Robert Ciro Gigante. A veteran of broadcasting in New York City, Grant is considered a pioneer of the “conservative” and “confrontational” talk radio format.

Characteristics of Grant’s radio shows
Grant’s political philosophy generally followed American conservatism, but with some lurches into populism, libertarianism, conspiracy theory, and unorthodoxy (such as being pro-choice and anti-Flag Desecration Amendment). Grant was known for using a number of catchphrases on his show, such as “You’re a fake, a phony, and a fraud!”, “Straight ahead”, “Get off my phone!”, “Anything and everything is grist for our ever-grinding mill”, and his closing line, “Your influence counts. Use it.”

ELLENVILLE, N.Y. Scorned by critics and his bosses at WABC radio, Bob Grant yesterday hunkered down in a veritable love fest with supporters who revel in his acid-toned, trigger-tongued views of the world.

Paying up to $239 for the weekend festivities, Grant’s fans, most of them elderly white retirees, clamored for autographs, copies of his new book and Bob Grant T-shirts, which feature in brash black lettering the host’s favorite slogan, “It’s sick out there and getting sicker.”

Bob Grant of WOR (710 AM), who had changed his daily signoff in recent months to “It’s sick out there and getting sicker,” has returned to his old, more upbeat “Your influence counts use it.” Maybe the peril faced by his adversary Clinton has made him optimistic. Grant’s producer Mark LoPonte says the Clinton story has produced the biggest caller rush he has seen in 12 years of talk radio.

Things are getting more idiotic everyday. When I look around, things keep getting worse – never better. Here in the NYC radio market we have an old school broadcaster named Bob Grant who has been in radio since 1948. He has worked at every station here – at least twice – and was doing talk radio before the term existed. He has a phrase that he coined: “It’s sick out there and GETTING SICKER!!!”
