Jewish Champagne (Dr. Brown’s Cel-Ray Soda, seltzer)
"Jewish champagne" is the nickname for both Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray Soda and for seltzer. The term dates from the 1930s and is not heard much today. "Jewish champagne" is mentioned in Arthur Schwartz's book of New York City food.

No, it's seltzer water, which is (used to be?) a popular drink with
Jews in New York. Also sometimes jokingly called "Jewish Champagne" (by the Jews themselves, not anti-semites). "2 cents", of course, referred to the price for a glass (back in the 40's).
