“Keep Wimberley Weirder”

“Keep Wimberley Weirder” is a gentle borrowing (trademarked in 2005) from the popular slogan “Keep Austin Weird.” Wimberley is located near Austin and this “weirder” slogan—seldom used—is associated with the Wimberley business “I love cookies by Sharon.”

The seemingly endless imitation Texas city slogans include “Keep San Antonio Lame,” “Keep Dallas Pretentious,” “Keep Dallas Plastic,” “Keep Dallas Douche,” “Keep Houston Dirty,” “Keep Denton Chido,” “Keep Abilene Boring,” “Keep College Station Normal,” “Keep Georgetown Normal,” “Keep Round Rock Mildly Unusual,” “Keep Lubbock Flat” and “Keep Waco Wacko.”

Wikipedia; Wimberley, Texas
Wimberley is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hays County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,797 at the 2000 census.

Keep Wimberley Weirder
Weirder than What?

Anyone who’s been to Wimberley, Texas will no doubt conclude that Wimberley is Wonderful - but Weirder? We who live in this sublime and serene hill country landscape, somewhat removed from the trappings of big city life, cherish the many unique attributes with which our community is blessed.

When we say weirder we mean different, unspoiled. We know that sometimes things must change to accommodate growth and we welcome newcomers who share in our love for our environment, our native wildlife, and our cultural diversity.

We want the benefits of progress without sacrificing the intrinsic things that brought us here to begin with. You may have other thoughts, concerns, or ideas which you would like to share with us.

The Mongolia Chronicles
Next time you have time in Austin, drive down to Wimberley and go swim in the river. Very hip, very laid back place. Good live music. Crunchy. Good vibe. Austin’s bumper stickers say, “Keep Austin Weird.” Wimberley’s say, (for real) “Keep Wimberley Weirder.”

Freaky Saturdays and “weirder” bumber stickers

A lot of people call Austin weird, and I saw a bumper sticker that said, “Keep Wimberley Weirder”. Hmmm…

In my personal opinion, Wimberley, Texas is a magical little town nestled in the Texas Hill Country, just outside of Austin.

Keep Wimberley Weirder
(...)
“Keep Wimberley Weirder” is a play on the “Keep Austin Weird” movement. KWW’s aim is to help ensure that mass-market, cookie-cutter development does not happen in Wimberley. Development like this stunning example of crap housing.
