Many people have criticized the company for its genetically engineered foods, giving the company the nickname “Monsatan” or “MonSatan” (Monsanto + satan). “MonSatan” was posted in the newsgroup sci.environment on October 1, 1998.

For instance, I feel passionately about ‘MonSatan’ as you call them, because I am anti genetic modification of the food chain. Some people call me an anarchist, yet my

I would have thought it nigh on impossible to find any ‘dirt’ on such an altruistic corporation as Monsanto.

Urban Dictionary
Monsatan
refers to the evil empire constructed by the Monsanto Corporation. Farmers started using this term around 2000 when the company began charging tech fees for genetically modified soybeans with resistance to Roundup herbicide and raised the price of their Roundup chemicals at the same time. In recent years the term has enjoyed expanded usage when describing Monsanto’s efforts to impact the entire food chain with their genetically modified products.
