“Rap is all about poor people bragging about being rich”

“If country lyrics are all about being poor and rap is all about being rich, what is the middle class of music genre’s?” is an jocular line that was cited on Twitter on August 9, 2011. “Too many country singers sing about being poor and too many rappers rap about being rich” was cited on Twitter on March 15, 2012. “Millionaire country singers singing about being poor but happy is just as bad as millionaire rappers rapping about being rich but still mad” was cited on Twitter on June 14, 2012.

The line became popular when it appeared on reddit on April 8, 2015:

“Rap is all about poor people bragging about being rich, while country is rich people bragging about being poor.”

I like rap music. But bragging about being rich to poor people is really offensive. I want to hear a gangsta rap song about buying a Cy Twombly painting or dating a museum curator. I want to hear about that kind of rich. Of course, the worst is having a convertible if you’re over 20 years old. If you’re 50, please, buy a painting.
