Red River Rivalry (Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners)

The football games between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns have been called the “Red River Rivalry” (or “Red River Rumble,” “Red River Rundown,” “Battle of the Red River” and more). The first game took place in 1900, but the nickname for the series seems to be popular from the late 1960s.

Other named football games include the Lone Star Showdown (Texas Longhorns vs. Texas A&M Aggies), the Battle of the Brazos (Baylor Bears vs. Texas A&M Aggies) and the Battle for the Iron Skillet (SMU Mustangs vs. TCU Horned Frogs).

Wikipedia: Red River Rivalry
The Red River Shootout or, more recently, the Red River Rivalry, is a common name for the annual college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the University of Texas Longhorns. The series is considered one of the greatest rivalries in NCAA football. The name is derived from the Red River that forms part of the boundary between the U.S. states of Oklahoma and Texas. The game originated in 1900, while Oklahoma was still a territory of the United States. Until the 2005 meeting, the 100th meeting between the schools, the game was sponsored by SBC Communications, and the game was officially renamed the SBC Red River Rivalry. Today, with SBC’s renaming as AT&T, the game is now referred to as the AT&T Red River Rivalry. The term Red River Shootout or Red River Rivalry is also sometimes applied to meetings between the two schools in sports other than football.
