“I find it ironic that the colors red, white and blue stand for freedom until they are flashing behind you” is a jocular saying that has been printed on ecards and posters. The “freedom” reference refers to the colors of the American flag; the “behind you” reference refers to a flashing police car pulling you over.
 
“America didn’t think the red, white and blue cane with a rear view mirror and bike horn was very funny” was cited on Twitter  on July 4, 2009. “Red,white,and blue stand for freedom..Yet,it just doesn’t seem to apply when you see those colors in your rear view mirror” was cited on Twitter on June 13, 2010. “The colors red white and blue stand for freedom , until they’re flashing behind you” was cited on Twitter on January 9, 2012.
