“Someone complimented my parking, leaving a note saying ‘Parking Fine’”

A popular parking joke is:

“You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, It said ‘Parking Fine.’ So that was nice.”

The joke was posted to the newsgroup rec.food.cooking on July 3, 2001. The joke is usually credited to British prop comedian Tommy Cooper (1921-1984), although contemporary citations have not been located.

Wikipedia: Tommy Cooper
Thomas Frederick Cooper (19 March 1921 – 15 April 1984) was a British prop comedian and magician. Cooper was a member of the Magic Circle, and respected by traditional magicians. He was famed for his red fez, and his appearance was large and lumbering, at 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and more than 15 stone (210 lb; 95 kg) in weight. On 15 April 1984, Cooper collapsed, and died soon afterwards, from a heart attack on live national television.
