The American Dream City (Arlington, TX slogan)

The city of Arlington (TX) introduced a new slogan in June 2014—“The American Dream City.” Bud Kennedy, of the Fort Worth (TX) Star-Telegram, wrote on June 25, 2014, “This time, Arlington got it right.” “Not a lot of love for Arlington and it’s new city motto: ‘The American Dream City’ on our @NBCDFW Facebook page” was posted on Twitter on June 27, 2014. A trademark application for “Arlington, The Dream City” was filed on April 4, 2014.

Arlington was not listed as one of the top cities in the American Dream Cities 2013 report.

Welcome to Arlington, TX: The American Dream City
June 24, 2014
On Tuesday, the City of Arlington and the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) announced the City’s official brand “Arlington: The American Dream City.”  This brand marks the first time in which the City and the CVB have aligned in developing an identity for Arlington.

The City and CVB worked closely together to develop the brand, interviewing hundreds of people from across Arlington to understand their perception of our past, present and future.
(...)
Throughout its history, even when faced with those who said it wasn’t possible, Arlington has become home to a host of international brands, including:

. The nation’s first regional fun park of American family fun, Six Flags Over Texas
. American manufacturing with the General Motors plant
. America’s pastime with the Texas Rangers and the iconic Globe Life Park
. America’s Team with the Dallas Cowboys and its world-class AT&T Stadium
. And, the United States Bowling Congress, celebrating the most participatory sport in the world

Arlington’s ‘American Dream’ comes in all colors
BY BUD KENNEDY
Posted Wednesday, Jun. 25, 2014
The Texas city named after the Confederate general’s Virginia hometown is now 150 years and a world removed from those roots and is newly anointed “The American Dream City.”

Arlington’s new slogan repositions the old “Fun Central” as an international city of education, free enterprise and family values in all colors.

This time, Arlington got it right.

After botched tourist slogans such as “Where the Crowd Goes Wild” and the hopelessly bland “Experience Arlington,” the city is re-wrapping itself in the flag, Americana and an honest appeal that transcends race and culture.

The spiraling growth of UT Arlington and the magnetic appeal of DFW Airport have made Arlington not only the center of Dallas-Fort Worth but also a global crossroad.

Arlington has launched a new branding effort called “The American Dream City.”

The video accompanying the marketing effort hits many of the expected highlights. There’s footage of the General Motors plant illustrating the theme of “hard work and Texas pride.” The camera pans through AT&T Stadium, the new Viridian housing development, lush River Legacy Park and the newest additions to the University of Texas at Arlington campus.
