Trainmageddon or Trainageddon (train + Armageddon)

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has many service changes from planned construction and maintenance work; “The Weekender” website lists the changes. The terms “snowmageddon” (snow + Armageddon) and “carmageddon” (car + Armageddon) were popularized in 2011.“Trainmageddon” has been cited in print before 2011, but it was popularized at this time.

Brooklyn “Weekend Watch” transportation reporter Dan MacLeod used “trainageddon” on September 16, 2011 and February 11, 2012. MacLeod used “trainmageddon” on November 17, 2011.

“Airmageddon” (air + Armageddon) is a related term involving airplanes.

Trainmageddon was avoided in St. Paul as the City Council delayed a vote on nixing Central Corridor LRT, the PiPress’ Dave Orrick writes. With the St. Paul Riverfront Corp. as a referee, PO’d council members and light-rail boosters will arm wrestle over a proposed Lowertown train shed for two weeks. Then the council will again decide on final “municipal consent” for the line.
