“Two-out hits will get you to heaven” (baseball adage)

Two-out hits in baseball help extend an inning (and the game, if it’s the ninth and final inning). “Two-out hits will get you (in)to heaven” is a baseball adage that emphasizes how important these hits are.

ESPN Sportscenter‘s John Anderson has said, “They say two-out hits will get you into heaven…someone give that man wings and a halo.” The saying is sometimes said to be an old baseball adage, but it has been cited in print since only 2005.

We have a saying that two-out hits will get you to heaven, and we didn’t get many of them until (Hines) missed that ball.
