El Nuevo Caridad restaurant, at 191st Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, is a place to watch Dominican baseball players. The restaurant's slogan is ""Un cuadrangular en sabor (A home run of flavor)."

Where the Boys of Winter Enchant Baseball Fans

On Tuesday night, a group of young men in oversized winter coats crowded close to the windows of El Nuevo Caridad, a restaurant in Washington Heights. Inside, there was a baseball game on television and the customers were watching and cheering as if it were the World Series.

The restaurant's slogan is "Un cuadrangular en sabor," or a home run of flavor. The menu features dozens of dishes named after famous Latino ballplayers, based on what they order when they visit, and lists their preferred side dishes. A footnote on the menu assures customers that each player has "authorized" his own dish before lending his name.

In much the same way that an earlier generation of Brooklyn Dodgers ate at Toomey's Diner in Flatbush, a number of younger Dominican players -- both Yankees and Mets -- frequent El Nuevo Caridad, a Dominican restaurant on 191st Street and St. Nicholas Avenue.
