Hasn’t got a friend in the world. ‘Cause nobody likes a smart ass!” is a similar joke that was printed in a 1969 joke book. “Do you know why donkeys don’t go to school? Because nobody likes a smart ass” was printed in the Philadelphia (PA) Inquirer on September 4, 1979.
