“You can’t keep a good market down”

“You can’t keep a good man down” is a popular saying from the 1880s. “‘You can’t keep a good market down.’ some gleeful broker is alleged to have written on a postcard to the federal reserve board last week” was cited in the financial sections of several July 1929 newspapers.

“You can’t keep a good market down” was cited in Forbes magazine in 1984 and “You can’t keep a good market down, Wall Streeters say” was cited in Business Week in 1988.

There is an old saying, “You can’t keep a good market down.” The question I am asking myself now is, “How long can you keep a bad market up?”
