It’s sometimes said that Lubbock, Texas, is in the middle of nowhere. Lubbock’s nickname is “Hub City of the Plains” or “Hub City.”
 
However, a joke has it that the ‘Hub City” is actually in the center of everything. This was published on The Ringer on September 13, 2017:
 
“Lubbock is in the middle of everything: roughly five hours north of San Antonio, five hours east of Santa Fe, five hours south of Oklahoma City, and five hours west of Dallas.”

Lubbock’s nickname, “Hub City”, derives from it being the economic, educational, and health care hub of the multicounty region, north of the Permian Basin and south of the Texas Panhandle, commonly called the South Plains.
