The “bass capital” title is disputed by other Texas cities, however, and it is not an “official capital designation” made by the Texas legislature.

Mount Pleasant is a city in Titus County, Texas, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 13,935. It is the county seat of Titus County, and is situated in Northeast Texas.

AREA PARKS & LAKES
The area surrounding Mount Pleasant is known for good hunting and the fishing. Four lakes within twenty minutes of Mount Pleasant offer 17,000 acres of water fun. Known as the “Bass Capital of Texas”, Mount Pleasant is home to some of the best fishing and water recreation anywhere. Lake Bob Sandlin features the 641 acre Bob Sandlin State Park, which opened in 1987. The Park’s camping facilities range from cabins and screened shelters to primitive camping spots. Titus County Park, at Lake Monticello, provides camping and restroom facilities and camping is also available at the Titus County Fresh Water District Park.
Lake Monticello: This 2,000 acre cooling reservoir for TXU’s Monticello Stream Electric Station produces more bass per acre than any lake in the state of Texas.
Lake Welsh: This cooling reservoir draws most of its trophy bass fishermen during cold winter months.
Town Lake: A recreational park located at 2508 N. Jefferson and features picnic tables/grills and two boat ramps.
Mt. Pleasant, Texas
The Mount Pleasant area declares itself the “Bass Capital of Texas.” This community has four prime bass lakes that are located just south of the town. In addition, the town is conveniently located five miles from the Bob Sandlin State Recreation Area. This recreation area provides camping sites, swimming, skiing, boat launching and much more! Mount Pleasant also has a diverse employment base and a strong economy.
Mt. Pleasant has it’s moderate climate to thank for it’s year round recreational opportunities. In the spring, and array of wild flowers create a colorful countryside, while summer offers water recreation and fishing. In the fall, Mother Nature again takes over and provides many hours of pleasure courtesy of the fall foliage. Winters in Mount Pleasant mean “hot water” bass fishing and Christmas magic.

There’s something fishy about this. Quitman claims to be “The Big Bass Capital of the World.” Meanwhile, Mount Pleasant calls itself “Bass Capital of Texas.” They should have a range war to settle it.
