Jason’s Deli (in Texas and many other states) serves a “New York Yankee” sandwich of hot corned beef and pastrami, swiss on rye, with a choice of mustard or mayonnaise. Other delis have sandwiches also named “New York Yankees,” but with diferent ingredients.
New York’s famous Stage Deli named a sandwich after New York Yankee Ron Blomberg (baseball’s first designated hitter) that is very similar to Jason’s “New York Yankee.”

Q&A: Milestone trumped career
Depending on who you ask, Ron Blomberg either ruined or energized baseball.
Q: New York must have been a massive change.
As soon as I signed and went to New York, I knew I had made it. As soon as I got up there, they welcomed me with open arms. It was so much fun being a Jew living in New York. There were television interviews, radio interviews. Everything. The Stage Deli just named a sandwich after me. It’s corned beef, pastrami and chopped liver. I don’t like chopped liver, but I took Joe DiMaggio’s spot. He’s rolling in his grave. [Laughs.]

If you want a sandwich, a deli sandwich, then Jason’s can’t be beat. My favorite is the New York Yankee ($6.25), a heaping pile of hot and tender corned beef and pastrami topped with Swiss cheese and served up on fresh rye bread. Like all the sandwiches at Jason’s, this is huge, piled high with meat to that point you can’t take a bite of the whole thing, but have to nibble off bits at a time.
