Peacock Network (NBC)
NBC (originally the National Broadcasting Company) is sometimes called the "Peacock Network." The peacock symbolized the new color broadcasts and was introduced in the 1950s.

NBC, (Formerly an acronym for the National Broadcasting Company until 2004), is an American television and radio network based in New York City's Rockefeller Center. It is sometimes referred to as the Peacock Network due to its stylized peacock logo. The network is now part of the media conglomerate NBC Universal and supplies programming to more than 200 affiliated U.S. stations. NBC Universal is a unit of General Electric.

Introduction of the original "Living Color" Peacock logo on NBC
The Peacock graphic logo as a still image was first seen in July of 1956 (according to Chicago's NBC/5 Web Site.) According to NBC/5 sources, NBC commissioned New York designer Fred Knapp to create the graphic logo; obviously done in conjunction with the NBC Art Department under whose director of design at that time was John J. Graham. It took another 14 months for the Peacock to move its wings...in an animation executed by Elektra Film Labs of New York City.

This first animated version of the Peacock logo started in black & white and then "fanned" into color. It debuted on September 7, 1957 for a broadcast of "Your Hit Parade."
