Permabull (Perma-bull)

A “permabull” (or “perma-bull” or “perma bull”) is a person who believe that the stock market will go up—a “bull market” optimist or “permanent bull.” The term “permabull” has been cited in print since at least 1994.

The opposite of a “permabull” is called a “permabear.”

There are two parts to this word that will help to let you know its meaning:

“perma” - permanent
“bear” - someone who believes in a falling stock market, or “bear” market

The opposite of a “permabear” is a “permabull”. This is someone who has a rosy and optimistic view of the markets, no matter what transpires.

No, this bull market won’t live forever. I’m no “permabull,” as one of my e-mailing critics labeled me. Scan my 15 years of FORBES columns and you will find two extended periods of bearish calls. I’m very proud of them. But I don’t think I’ll need to make another one until 2001. I’m predicting two more good years.
