Big Raisin (summary)
"Big Raisin" was somewhat popular in 1977 (during the 1970s "Big Apple" revival) as a nickname for Fresno, California. Fresno grows a lot of raisins.

As I type this, I'm 46 years old...I will turn 47 a week from Monday!...and I live in Fresno, CA...the self-proclaimed "Agribusiness Capital of the World" and also called "The Big Raisin" because of its size(est. pop. 495,000), and because nearly 10% of the world's raisins are produced in its county!

Fresno.

The Big Raisin.

"You know, you guys are the Big Apple. We're the Big Raisin," said a guy outside Club Fred, the neon-signed venue where we played tonight to at least 19 people.

15 February 1984, Barnard Bulletin (New York City), pg. 3:
"Okay, people," he says. "You're all from the Big Apple, right? Well, around here Nashua is known as the Big Raisin. This is where it's at in New Hampshire. And right fro mthe start we want you to know that how many raisins you get depends on how much work you do."
