Texas Egg Roll

“Texas egg rolls” may have originated at the Original Roadhouse Grill, a chain of restaurants mostly on the West Coast (California, Oregon, Washington) and not yet in Texas. A “Texas egg roll” is a fried chili pepper stuffed with beef or chicken (or just cream cheese). Recipes vary.

Original Roadhouse Grill
Welcome to Original Roadhouse Grill, the hottest grill in town!

Original Roadhouse Grill features an authentic roadhouse menu and atmosphere. The look and feel is laid-back with a true down-home, fun-lovin’ atmosphere. Slightly western and very casual, you’ll find people wearing blue jeans, peanuts served in buckets, and a blend of Country music, Classic Rock and Blues on the jukebox. Aromas from the open-air grill will get your mouth watering.

The Original Roadhouse Grill offers a variety of genuine roadhouse fare including mesquite grilled items like special aged steaks from USDA corn-fed beef, ribs, chops, and chicken, as well as grilled salmon and shrimp. House specialties include, the famous Texas Egg Rolls served with jalapeno jelly and yeast rolls baked fresh throughout the day.

The restaurant’s fun-lovin attitude doesn’t stop with the food. The Original Roadhouse Grill’s full service saloon offers its own share of special roadhouse-themed beverages. Ice-cold long neck beers, drinks served in mason jars with names like Bootlegger Tea, Luckenbach Lemonade and Roadhouse Golden Rita are the perfect addition to any meal.

Texas Egg Rolls
A taste treat from the Far East - Far East Texas that is. Cream cheese and chopped jalapeno cocooned in a skin of wonton. Deep fried with a helping of jalapeno jelly for dipping.

Seattle Post-Intelligencer
With his Southwestern background, Lasof fit right in with the new program. He’s the inspiration behind the Texas egg rolls ($7.75), a meal-in-itself appetizer that stuffs crackly deep-fried wrappers with a habanero-tingly blend of chicken, corn and black beans, with an extra kick from salsa, spiced sour cream and jalapeno pesto cream.

We ordered the Texas Egg Rolls, which were good, albeit very salty (they use onion _salt_ instead of onion powder).

I had a business lunch today at The Cheesecake Factory in the Galleria.  It was very good as was the service.  It was a bit too loud to converse with folks down at the end of the table.  I had a wonderful Farfalle pasta with chicken, panchetta, peas, in a cream sauce.  We also all shared some pot stickers (fair), spring rolls (wonderful), and some kind of Texas egg rolls with avocado cream sauce, which everyone else liked but I didn’t (too much corn in them for me).
