Thursday, September 23, marks the second time these two signature events, The Wall Street Run and The Heart Walk are combined.

The Wall Street Run & Heart Walk is a 5K (3.1 mile) competitive run and non-competitive walking event designed to raise funds to support the life-saving mission of the American Heart Association while promoting the cardiovascular benefits of regular exercise. More than 5,000 people from throughout the five boroughs are expected. For more information, please call 212-878-5900.

About 2,000 runners are expected to participate in the event, which benefits the United Way, Beekman Downtown Hospital and the New York Heart Association. Corporations can enter teams of four at $1,000 per team. Each team must contain one female runner.

23 September 2003, Business Wire:
ADVISORY/The 2003 Wall Street Run Returns to World Financial Center for First Time since 9/11.

WHEN:
Thursday, September 25th, 6:15pm

WHERE:
World Financial Center North Cove Esplanade (Race start is at West and
Murray Streets)

WHAT & WHY:
Thousands of New Yorkers and an estimated 2,500 Merrill Lynch
employees will converge on Lower Manhattan for the 2003 Wall Street Run, which, this year, returns to its pre-9/11 home of the World Financial Center. The 23-year-old tradition of running through the streets of the famed financial district was taken away from the community in 2001 when the events of 9/11 closed it down. Two years later, after smaller races in Central Park and South Street Seaport, the time-honored tradition has returned home to the World Financial Center for what is expected to be the largest turnout ever. Runners and walkers step out this year in a show of commitment for Lower Manhattan and to raise awareness about New York City's number one cause of death and disability - heart disease. The 2003 Wall Street Run, presented by Merrill Lynch and benefiting the American Heart Association, is a 5K run and walk professionally timed and conducted by the New York Road Runners.
