"When things are bad and getting worse, keep a cookie in your purse” has been cited in print since at least 1999, when it was on a greeting card. The saying has also appeared on a refrigerator magnet. The simple saying means that one should always carry a cookie—a food that brings happiness to all situations.

I’m going to quote a Hallmark card I picked up for my friend:
When things are bad and getting worse keep a cookie in your purse.

I’m about to watch “Naomi Judd’s Family Table” on Food Network.
Oh god, she’s talking. “When things are bad and getting worse, keep a cookie in your purse.”

the thinking on thoughts.
What are three sayings that have changed your life?
I know one of mine has been “if things are bad and getting worse keep a cookie in your purse”
Now maybe this just says something about me and my deep and meaningful relationship with cookies....or perhaps it’s really a reminder that no matter how icky life can be, it is the little things and the appreciation of thier existace that brings us comfort.....then again it may be all about the cookies
In Your Purse
Today I saw a sign which read,
If your day is bad
And getting worse,
Put a cookie
In your purse!

To quote a magnet my mom has on the refrigerator, “When things are bad and getting worse, keep a cookie in your purse.” Sounds like a good plan to me.

Cookies for Emergencies
When I was in college my mom sent me a card. The card was perfect for a college student stressed out with classes, a girl with a gigantic sweet tooth and someone who likes to pack a lunch that consists of as many little baggies of food as I can get away with! There’s nothing like snacking your way through the day when you’re stuck staring at databases all day (it’s mostly healthy, don’t worry!) I saved the card and have it to this day but the message permanently etched itself into my brain from the first moment I read it.
“When things are bad and getting worse, keep a cookie in your purse.”
Now those are words to live by!

The Martha in Me
My mom used to say, “When your day is bad and getting worse, keep a cookie in your purse.” That means: instead of feeling sorry for yourself when things aren’t going how you want them to be...do something nice for someone else.
