“A BuzzFeed writer walks into a bar…” (bar joke)

“A guy walks into a bar…” is a typical form of what has been called the “bar joke.” A BuzzFeed version is:

“A BuzzFeed writer walks into a bar. You won’t believe what happens next!”

“You won’t believe what happens next!” is a famous clickbait line to capture a reader’s attention. The line is sometimes said to describe the content at the websites BuzzFeed and Upworthy.

“An Upworthy journalist walked into a bar and you won’t believe what happened next” was posted on Twitter by Rob Manuel on January 2, 2014. “A BuzzFeed writer walks into a bar. You won’t believe what happens next!” was posted on Twitter on February 22, 2014.
