“A large aperitif: contents of an Italian horse’s mouth”

“A guy walks into a bar...” is a typical form of what has been called the “bar joke.” There are several jokes about a “large aperitif” (large pair of teeth), usually involving a horse or a British figure with large teeth, such as fictional British movie spy (and James Bond parody) Austin Powers or English broadcaster, journalist, writer, and media personality Janet Street-Porter.

“Janet Street Porter walked into a bar and asked for a large aperitif… the Barman said i dont think you need another” was posted on Twitter by Ian_Young on March 3, 2011. “Austin Powers walks into a bar and says ‘Could I get a large aperitif?’ The bartender replies ‘no, I don’t think so’” was posted on Reddit—Jokes on August 7, 2015.

“#punsr A LARGE APERITIF: contents of an Italian horse’s mouth” was posted on Twitter by Louisa Toff on February 1, 2014. “A horse goes into a bar and says, ‘Can I have a large aperitif, please.’ The barman says, ‘They look large enough to me already” was posted on Twitter by Lorraine Jo King on March 30, 2021.
