Access To Money (“ATM” backronym)

“ATM” is an acronym from “automated teller machine” or “automatic teller machine.” However, many people believe that “ATM” stands for “access to money.”

“Okay, so ATM really stands for ‘automatic teller machine,’ not ‘access to money’—but it’s practically the same thing” was cited in print in 2006.

Wikipedia: Automated teller machine
An automated teller machine or automatic teller machine (ATM) (American, Australian, Singaporean, Indian, and Hiberno-English), also known as an automated banking machine (ABM) (Canadian English), cash machine, cashpoint, cashline, or colloquially hole in the wall (British, South African, and Sri Lankan English), is an electronic telecommunications device that enables the customers of a financial institution to perform financial transactions without the need for a human cashier, clerk or bank teller.
