Already Been Canceled (ABC nickname)

The American Broadcasting Company (ABC) began in 1943 and is headquartered on Manhattan’s Upper West Side (near Lincoln Center). ABC had a 1990s reputation for poorly developing any successful shows and was called “Already Been Canceled” (or “Already Been Cancelled”). “Already Been Cancelled” was posted on the newsgroup rec.toys.misc on April 25, 1996. The nickname is still used.

Other ABC nicknames include “All Bullshit Channel,” “Almost Broadcasting Company,” “Alphabet Network” and “Awful Broadcasting Company.”

Wikipedia: American Broadcasting Company
The American Broadcasting Company (ABC) is an American commercial broadcast radio and television networks that is a subsidiary of the Disney Media Networks division of The Walt Disney Company. The network is headquartered in Burbank, California, on Riverside Drive, directly across the street from Walt Disney Studios and adjacent to the Roy E. Disney Animation Building. The network’s secondary offices, and headquarters of its news division, is in New York City, New York, at their broadcast center at 77 West 66th Street in the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Since 2007, when ABC Radio (also known as Cumulus Media Networks) was sold to Citadel Broadcasting, ABC has reduced its broadcasting operations almost exclusively to television. The fifth-oldest major broadcasting network in the world and the youngest of the Big Three television networks, ABC is nicknamed “The Alphabet Network”, as its initialism also represents the first three letters of the English alphabet, in order.

18 June 2000, Asbury Park (NJ) Press, “ABC=Already Been Canceled: Smith” by Mark Voger, pg. E6:
Going in, Kevin Smith knew his “Clerks” animated series wouldn’t get picked up by ABC. About the only consolation the filmmaker had was that the world would at least get to see the six finished episodes.

Then ABC TV canceled the series after two episodes.

12 April 2002, Daily News (New York, NY), pg. 139, cols. 1-2:
“AFP: American Fighter Pilot” was grounded by CBS, so fans of the show (and there weren’t many of you) will tune to this time slot for “AFP” and find it’s “ABC”—Already Been Canceled.

28 September 2002, The Daily Journal (Vineland, NJ), pg. B1, left masthead:
ABC or ‘already been canceled?’
Looks like CBS and NBC are emerging at the head of the class in early ratings test.
