“Amazon is basically Acme from the Roadrunner cartoons”

The Acme Corporation is a fictional corporation that appeared in The Road Runner Show (1948-1966) cartoons. Amazon.com is an American electronic commerce company that sells many products. Amazon has sometimes been called the modern Acme.

“Amazon is to me as ACME is to Looney Tunes” was posted on Twitter on July 31, 2013. “Amazon is the new ACME” was posted on Twitter on November 3, 2013. “Amazon is the Acme of the Roadrunner cartoons” was posted on Twitter on May 20, 2014.

Wikipedia: Amazon (company)
Amazon.com, Inc., doing business as Amazon (/ˈæməˌzɒn/), is an American electronic commerce and cloud computing company based in Seattle, Washington that was founded by Jeff Bezos on July 5, 1994. The tech giant is the largest Internet retailer in the world as measured by revenue and market capitalization, and second largest after Alibaba Group in terms of total sales. The amazon.com website started as an online bookstore and later diversified to sell video downloads/streaming, MP3 downloads/streaming, audiobook downloads/streaming, software, video games, electronics, apparel, furniture, food, toys, and jewelry. The company also produces consumer electronics—Kindle e-readers, Fire tablets, Fire TV, and Echo—and is the world’s largest provider of cloud infrastructure services (IaaS and PaaS). Amazon also sells certain low-end products under its in-house brand AmazonBasics.

Wikipedia: The Road Runner Show
The Road Runner Show was an animated anthology series which compiled theatrical Wile E. Coyote and The Road Runner cartoons from the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, which were produced by Warner Bros. Cartoons between 1948 and 1966.

Wikipedia: Acme Corporation
The Acme Corporation is a fictional corporation that features prominently in Warner Bros. animated shorts, more specifically, the Road Runner/Wile E. Coyote cartoons as a running gag featuring outlandish products that fail or backfire catastrophically at the worst possible times. The name is also used as a generic title in many cartoons, films, TV series, commercials and comic strips.

The company name in the Road Runner cartoons is ironic, since the word acme is derived from Greek (ακμή; English transliteration: akmē) meaning the peak, zenith or prime, and products from the fictional Acme Corporation are often generic, failure-prone, and/or explosive.

If Wile E Coyote were chasing the Road Runner today, he would be ordering his weapons of mass dysfunction from Amazon, not ACME.
