Amazonesia (Amazon + amnesia)

“Amazonesia” (Amazon + amnesia) relates to ordering online from Amazon.com. When the package arrives at the doorstep a day or two later, the customer often has amnesia and forgets what was ordered. The word “Amazonesia” has been printed on several images.

“amazonesia” was posted on Twitter by Professor Snarky on January 31, 2011. “I have Amazonesia: I keep buying shit on Amazon and forgetting what I’ve ordered” was posted on Twitter by heather on February 13, 2012. “Amazonesia: finding Amazon packages on your doorstep that you don’t remember ordering” was posted on Twitter by Frank Olivier on October 22, 2012. “Amazonesia Receiving a package from Amazon.com that you ordered, but do not recall ordering” was entered in the Urban Dictionary on July 11, 2013.

“This phenomenon is called Amazonesia. There are a couple use cases. First, is when something shows up at your door, and you didn’t remember ordering anything. The other is, go to site for one thing, find different things, forget to get the thing you originally went for. 🤣🤷😂” was posted on Twitter by Amazon (the company’s official Twitter) on July 14, 2022.

Amazonesia
Receiving a package from Amazon.com that you ordered, but do not recall ordering. Amazonesia often occurs after drunken, late-night, online shopping sprees. The condition is worsened by subscription to Amazon prime.
Bill came home and found a UPS box on his front door. He picked it up and saw that it was addressed to him, from Amazon.com. Bill tries to think of what could be inside the box, but can’t remember what he ordered; Bill has Amazonesia. eh

ONCE more the Diary takes it upon itself to update the English dictionary with fresh words. Sandy Tuckerman suggests: Amazonesia (Noun): The disorientating inability to recall what is in the package that just arrived, even though you ordered it yourself yesterday.

Window shopping, bored shopping, retail therapy, we’ve heard’em all. Now, if you order something and it shows up and you completely forgot what it was… That’s Amazonesia and you might want to look into a supplement that helps with memory. 😂🛍️🛒

Fear not, friend. This is a form of Amazonesia. Most typically, this is where you order something, forget you ordered it, and are REALLY confused when a package shows up. We all go through it every once in a while. 🛒❔🤷
